Joan Sebastian

While waiting for ramen in Colonia Juárez, Sean and I struck up a conversation with a family who were visiting their son in Mexico City. The conversation quickly moved to Joan Sebastian, a beloved singer and songwriter and, for millions, a national hero.

Sebastian began writing songs as a child and pursued a music career after leaving a seminary in his teens. He was renowned for performing concerts on horseback, earning the nickname "el rey del jaripeo" or "the king of Mexican rodeo.”

His endearing legacy and music are still celebrated today. Enjoy!
